Understanding what your audience wants to find is the overall goal, when you understand this, everything falls into place with your content, where to display the information and all the rest.
The power of keyword research lies in better understanding your target market and how they are searching for your content, services, or products
Here are a few of our favourite keywords tools that we use at Gekkoshot when conducting research and mapping out our SEO strategy for our clients
Research Your Competitors With SEMRush
This is a great website research tool. Here you can check search engine or PPC stats on any website.
You can also see your rankings or your competitors rankings as well, it gives you a very clear picture of the market you are operating in and where you stand in that market
There are 2 ways you can use this tool:
- Enter your website URL, under Organic Research on the left, click positions. You will be able to see what you are ranking for on page 2 and re-optimize your pages or add links. These can be internal or external to boost your rank.
- You can run a keyword report on your competitors domains and sort by keyword volume, use their keywords and either add them to your existing pages or build out new pages.
Get faster keyword suggestions with KWFinder:
This is one of the quickest tools and will show you how tough the competition is for keyword and Unique linking IPs for the top 10 results.
This will give you a good overview of what each SERP result looks like.
You can use this in conjunction with the keyword ideas you have got from SEMRush.
Keyword ideas from “Google Suggest Scraper” UberSuggest:
When Googling a term Google will often suggest variations to help you complete your search.
Ubersuggest will pull in all the suggestions as well as finding related keywords.
It’s a free tool and great for finding keyword ideas as well as volume.
Answer the public – Actual customer questions:
This is similar to Ubersuggest but with more.
Here you can find out what questions people are searching for.
Keyword research with Ahref’s keyword explorer:
Ahref’s keyword explorer is an excellent tool for keyword research.
Their database is one of the largest and has the most accurate keyword difficulty rating of all the tools.
The best feature is that it will tell you approximately how many links that you will need directly to a page in order to rank for more keywords.
Search for Amazon, YouTube and Ebay keywords with Keyword Tool.io:
Again another very popular tool but the difference with this one is that you can actually get keywords for other major search engines such as Amazon.
